Ukrainian parliament speaker Alexander Moroz has officially announced the creation of the majority coalition
Ukrainian parliament speaker Alexander Moroz has officially announced the creation of the majority coalition of the oppositional Party of Regions, the Social Party and the Communist Party and the eclipsing of the “orange” one. The parliamentary crisis in Ukraine is threatening to turn into a political one. The “orange” team in the Supreme Rada, or parliament, is in effort to brew it after failing to win dominance, ceding it to a new “anti-crisis coalition”. The “orange” leaders have resorted to a so-called grass-root initiative that they are going to develop. Their anonymous mouthpiece, web site Maidan, has gone into action for the first time after the 2004 presidential elections. On behalf of a “Maidan Alliance” it has sent an address “to the president, leaders of democratic and patriotic forces, all active citizens”. The alliance described the situation in Ukraine as “catastrophic”. It declared that “insolent usurpation of legislative power by Socialist (party leader Alexander) Moroz is an apogee of uncontrollability of political processes”. The Maidan Alliance urged the president “not to allow the formation of the executive branch of authority with an illegitimate method and dissolve the parliament”. It called the “anti-crisis coalition” an “anti-Ukrainian Communist-bandit” group and proposed the rallying of “all active citizens” and setting up “central and regional systemic counteraction staffs”. The website called on people to come to the parliament building on Tuesday, “taking along the flags of NATO, EU and fishing-rods for unfolding the banners of Ukraine and Maidan”. The Maidan Alliance reiterated some of statements by Yulia Timoshenko. The comeback of the web site could be a “surprise” about which one of members of Our Ukraine warned on Monday. The site also has a text “in memory of Shamil Basayev”, a Chechen warlord killed on Sunday, who it said “doughtily fought the Kremlin”.
