Russia and Mongolia have all prerequisites for making a breakthrough in trade and economic contacts, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said. “This is connected with mutual interests, dynamic development of economies and the prepared programme of cooperation development for the years 2006-10,” he said at a news conference after inter-governmental talks in Ulan Bator on Tuesday. Fradkov said that Russia and Mongolia would “approach a number of major projects” within months, including in geological prospecting, mining transport, construction, power engineering and other sectors “in which the interests of the countries and businessmen can coincide”. Fradkov explained that “such large Russian companies as Severstalgrup, Bazovy Element, Renova, Norilsky Nikel, Zarubezhdialogia and others can participate in the portfolio of projects, of which there are many enough”. “Russian business is interested in coal, copper, gold and uranium deposits. Our colleagues are interested in deliveries of oil and refining products.” Besides, the sides want a higher effectiveness of joint ventures that are “flagships of Russian-Mongolian cooperation: Erdenet, Mongolrostsvet, the Ulan Bator Railway,” Fradkov said.
