Lukashenko invites Russian company to build power plant
BELOZERSK, Brest region, December 31 (Itar-Tass) - Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko has proposed to the Russian company Itera to consider the possibility of building a power plant in the city of Belozersk near the currently operating Berezovskaya hydropower plant. “The Belarussian side is ready to cooperate and offers any mutually advantageous variants,” Lukashenko said at a meeting with the Itera head, Igor Makarov and during a visit to the Berezovskaya hydropower plant. Lukashenko said that the matter may concern the establishment of a private or joint venture with a small package of shares for Belarus. The president suggested that the energy generated by the plant be sold to EU countries. “If Western markets collapse, this power may be sold on the internal Belarussian market taking into account the growing demand for it,” Lukashenko said. Igor Makarov in turn expressed readiness to provide a 100-percent funding of the project taking into account export opportunities for Itera. The capacity of the new power plant may reach 450 megawatt, and the project cost – 600 million U.S. dollars.
