For the period of January-April 2004 Russia's foreign trade has risen to a positive balance of 24.3 million dollars.
This increase is discussed in the ministry's report on the country's economy for January-April 2004. For the analogous period in 2003 the indicators showed a positive balance of 19.3 billion dollars. According to the data in the report, export trades from Russia in January-April 2004 exceeded the growth for the corresponding period in 2003 by 23.2%. The monetary equivalent of this indicator shows 50.9 billion dollars as opposed to 41.3 billion dollars for the first four months of 2003. In addition, according to the ministry's data, the average price of Urals oil in this time period for 2004 was 29.4 dollars a barrel, slightly higher than the level in the beginning of 2003. More noticeable growth came in the prices of non-ferrous metals: aluminum by 20.8%, brass by 68.9%, nickel by 71%, and also gas by almost 9%. In January-April 2004 the volume of imports grew by 20.9% as apposed to 25.9% in January-April 2003 and totaled 26.6 billion dollars.
