Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday handed high state awards to the participants in the counter-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday handed high state awards to the participants in the counter-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus, among them also to those who took part in the liquidation of ringleader of terrorists Shamil Basayev. “You know yourself that our people have long awaited this result (Basayev’s liquidation) and have the right to demand from us this very kind of work – coordinated, purposeful,” Putin stated. “The threat of bandit attacks is still very big. Ensuring people’s security is one of the most important tasks of the state and therefore strengthening of the Armed Forces, security services, law enforcement agencies will remain one of our priorities,” the Russian head of state emphasised. Basayev was liquidated in the Ingushetia republic on July 10.
