Soldier has been killed in an explosion near the Chechen capital
A soldier has been killed in an explosion near the Chechen capital, local police said Tuesday. A roadside bomb exploded when a convoy of four cars and two armored personnel carriers was passing near the village of Prigorodnoye in central Chechnya. "A contract soldier who was sitting on an APC at the rear of the convoy was killed," a police source said. He also said the police in the capital, Grozny, had arrested a militant from an illegal armed group led by Ruslan Asuyev. He is wanted for murder, kidnapping and banditry. In southwestern Chechnya two local residents handed into the police 27 kilograms of TNT that they claimed they had discovered in the area. "They also surrendered six artillery rounds and 528 rounds of small arms ammunition," the police said. An investigation into the find is under way.
