Gennady Zyuganov believes that the letter of some members of the Communist Party's Central Committee calling for his voluntary resignation will not have any destructive effect on the party
"Such statement will fail to shatter the party," Mr. Zyuganov said to reporters on Tuesday when commenting on the letter. "Everything is proceeding as usual in the party, and I received 100% support at regional party conferences," said the Communist leader. He remarked that the party congress would solve the question on the party leadership. When asked by a RIA Novosti correspondent, deputy chairman of the Communist faction in the State Duma Sergei Rashulsky opined that the July congress of the party would exclude the authors of the letter from the party's Central Committee. "The letter will hardly damage Mr. Zyuganov's positions," said Mr. Rashulsky. According to Tamara Pletneva of the Communist faction, "the authors of the letter expressed the wish of their masters, and not the party organisation." Ms. Pletneva believes that the party congress in July will decide in favour of Mr. Zyuganov's leadership. Viktor Ilyukhin, a member of the Communist party and a Duma deputy, believes that it is up to the congress to decide who should be the leader of the Communist Party. Mr. Ilyukhin also noted that Mr. Zyuganov had done a lot for the party, and "the letter of the six is not the decision of the congress." Earlier, several members of the Communist Party sent a letter to Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, calling for his voluntary resignation at the forthcoming congress of the party due in July. The authors of the letter accused the Communist leader of links to oligarchs.
