Ukraine's pro-presidential bloc Our Ukraine is poised to join the "anti-crisis" coalition in parliament
Ukraine's pro-presidential bloc Our Ukraine is poised to join the "anti-crisis" coalition in parliament, the parliamentary speaker said Thursday. Oleksandr Moroz said members of the Supreme Rada would adopt Thursday a motion on reforming the coalition and deciding two procedural issues. Our Ukraine will become the fourth political force in the coalition, which already unites the Party of Regions, led by prime ministerial nominee Viktor Yanukovych, the Socialist Party and the Communists, under the terms of an agreement reached by President Viktor Yushchenko, Moroz and parliamentary faction leaders early Thursday. Yushchenko submitted to parliament Yanukovych's candidacy for the premiership earlier Thursday in a significant step toward resolving the political crisis that has engulfed the ex-communist nation since parliamentary elections in March failed to produce a clear winner. The "anti-crisis" coalition nominated Yanukovych for the prime minister's job in July. Yushchenko either had to back Yanukovych's nomination by midnight Wednesday or decide to dissolve the 450-seat Supreme Rada, a move which former premier Yulia Tymoshenko and current leader of the opposition had supported.
