Russian Vice-premier, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has welcomed the return of the Krusenstern sailing ship at a gala ceremony of welcome to the ship held in St. Petersburg on Monday. Sergei Ivanov read out a message of greetings to the expedition sent by President Vladimir Putin, who said in his message that " the return of the ship from the journey round the world is a significant event in Russia's public life." "We have proved once again that Russia is a big naval power. Your expedition was devoted to the 60th anniversary of World War II. An exhibition of photographs displayed on board the ship aroused great interest," the president said in the message. For his part, Sergei Ivanov declared that the members of the expedition worthily demonstrated the Russian state flag in all the latitudes of the world ocean. "I am glad to say that future officers worked on board the ship. Every member of the expedition has undergone a real examination and gained real naval experience,” Sergei Ivanov said.
