Some 150 million roubles will be spent to improve security at the State Hermitage Museum in 2007
Some 150 million roubles will be spent to improve security at the State Hermitage Museum in 2007, Hermitage director Mikhail Piotrovsky told reporters on Thursday. At present, the Hermitage administration, jointly with specialists from the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography and the Federal Service for Supervision of Law in Mass Communications and Protection of Culture Heritage are working out amendments to the storage and inventory system. Specifically, it is planned to launch a system of electronic registration of visits to depositories by museum personnel. Also, the issue of payrises for museum curators is under consideration. Piotrovsky believes that police are likely to zero in on more people suspected of involvement in the theft of 221 artworks worth 130 million roubles from the Hermitage's Russian jewelry department. "There are many puzzles in this case," he added.
