Russia's Black Sea Fleet is beginning a command-staff exercise of Monday to drill actions in humanitarian and antiterrorist operations, spokesman for the Russian Navy Captain First Rank Igor Dygalo told Itar-Tass. “The main tasks of the command-staff exercise are improving interaction of military command bodies, drilling elements of the logistic and technical support system at fulfilling tasks at sea,” the Navy spokesman pointed out. “The scenario of the manoeuvres includes measures aimed at planning and use of the Fleet’s force in the event of humanitarian, ecological and technogenic catastrophes, drilling antiterrorist actions in the Black Sea Fleet responsibility zone,” Dygalo said. According to the Navy official, “Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Vladimir Masorin who on Saturday arrived at the main base of the Black Sea Fleet will exercise command over the manoeuvres.” The Black Sea Staff said the exercise will last till August 20. The manoeuvres’ plan envisages the landing of the most numerous seaborne troops’ group in recent years.
