Criminal case has been opened against Pyatigorsk mayor Igor Tarasov
A criminal case has been opened against Pyatigorsk mayor Igor Tarasov, suspected of causing a fatal car crash, in which three people were killed and another two were injured, a regional prosecutor told Itar-Tass on Friday. The prosecutor's office asked the court to sanction his arrest, he added. According to the prosecutors, Tarasov, driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, collided with a Zhiguli car under unknown circumstances on the Kavkaz federal highway, several kilometers from Stavropol overnight to August 23. All the victims are Zhiguli passengers. The mayor, also injured in the road accident, was taken to Stavropol's hospital # 4. Prosecutors underlined that "certain law-enforcement personnel took measures to conceal the fact of Tarasov's sustaining injures in the car crash, and his delivery to the trauma department; attempts are also being made to distort the picture of the circumstances of the road accident and Tarasov's role in it." The criminal case is being handled by an investigator for serious cases. Tarasov was elected Pyatigorsk mayor less than a month ago. Earlier, he was an adviser to the Chechen prime minister.
