Over 50 percent of Russians believe that good housing is number one prerequisite of prestige in society
Over 50 percent of Russians believe that good housing is number one prerequisite of prestige in society. Ability to afford good education for one’s children is rated second (37 percent), and possession of a motor vehicle, third (27 percent), as follows from a VCIOM opinion poll. On the list of less prestigious signs of well-being are holiday-making in other countries (21 percent), top quality medical education (21 percent), ability to acquire real estate in other countries (20 percent), and possession of a country house (12 percent). The national public opinion studies center also points to some other peculiarities of the opinion poll. Women appreciate good medical service and good education for children far more often than men, and care far less about owning a car. The VCIOM poll was held on August 12-13, 2006. The pollster questioned 1,600 respondents in 153 cities and villages in 46 constituent territories of Russia. The error margin did not exceed 3.4 percent.
