The 13th Beijing international book fair opened here on Wednesday
The 13th Beijing international book fair opened here on Wednesday. The symbolic ribbon at the entrance was cut by Dmitry Medvedev, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Chen Zhili, Member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Mikhail Seslavinsky, Head of Russia's Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, pointed out in his remarks at the opening ceremony that "Russia's participation in this fair is a particularly significant event, for it is the first time that we have been invited as guest of honour to the major book forum" of the Asia-Pacific Region. "Russian participation in the fair is one of key events of the Year of Russia in China. We have long been preparing for it, designing display stands so that everyone could learn something of interest to oneself," Seslavinsky said. The Russian exhibition taking up an area of 1,000 square meters at the book fair is the largest one in the entire history of book forums. Seventy publishing firms have put on show 5,000 books published over the past two years. The Russian delegation includes a group of writers and scientists, whom Chinese book lovers will have an occasion to meet with at literary and scientific readings. The book fair will run till September 2.
