Nine kilos of heroin were seized in Moscow from a Tajik national
Nine kilos of heroin were seized in Moscow from a Tajik national, a source at the Federal Drug Control Service said Thursday. He said police in southern Moscow pulled over a car for a traffic violation. The car owner was a Tajik national temporarily residing in the capital. An inspection of his car revealed a package lying on the rug behind the driver's seat. Drug police, who were quickly called in, ascertained that it contained about 1 kg of high-quality heroin. "The Tajik citizen, whose name cannot be disclosed due to the ongoing investigation, was detained and a criminal case opened under Article 228 of the Russian Criminal Law Code (illegal transportation of narcotic substances)," the official said. He said the detainee confessed and agreed to show police where he got the drugs. "The area was inspected by FDCS agents using dogs," he said. "One of the dogs uncovered eight packages of heroin, totaling 7.8 kg." Police said the heroin - about 9 kg in all - was the equivalent of 100,000 doses.
