The health of Russia’s school age children has worsened considerably
The health of Russia’s school age children has worsened considerably, the chief of the Public Chamber’s commission for the health service, children’s doctor Leonid Roshal told a news conference timed for the beginning of another academic year. He said a comprehensive medical examination of Russia’s children provided extensive evidence pointing in this direction. “Russia’s school age children had worse health only in the revolution and World War II years,” Roshal said. “The past ten years saw a particularly serious worsening. Malnutrition in schools and shortage of medical personnel are to blame. Low wages force nurses and doctors abandon educational establishments,” he said. Roshal believes the problem of restoring medical services at schools and pre-school childcare centers has to be addressed urgently.
