Ramzan Kadyrov does not regard as timely an initiative to rename the Chechen Republic
Chechen premier Ramzan Kadyrov does not regard as timely an initiative to rename the Chechen Republic. Commenting on a proposal, expressed by Chechen President Alu Alkhanov, he noted that “this is inexpedient economically, since this will tax millions of roubles”. “It is expedient to restore the social sphere of the republic with these funds,” Kadyrov emphasized. The premier noted that “not a single page of the Chechen Constitution contains the word ‘Chechnya’ as an official name of the subject of the Russian Federation – the Chechen Republic”. “Besides, over 80 percent of Chechen population expressed their agreement with the official name of the republic during the republic-wide referendum and adoption of the Constitution of a subject of the Russian Federation,” he added. Earlier, the Chechen cabinet head had disagreed with a proposal by some deputies to the republican parliament on renaming the republican capital Grozny.
