Fourteen criminal cases have been opened in the Karelian town of Kondopoga over the facts of murder
Fourteen criminal cases have been opened in the Karelian town of Kondopoga over the facts of murder, mass disturbances and arsons, Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev told reporters on Thursday after arriving in Gomel, Belarus. "It's difficult to comment on the situation at present, given the fact that a group of investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office, the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service is working in town," the minister said. "It is the specialists who will find out the cause-effect connection in the Kondopoga events," Nurgalieyev said. "One can hear many various opinions about the situation, but the Russian Interior Ministry believes that clear comments should come from specialists, so that there are no distortions and ambiguity," he underlined. On Wednesday, Russian Deputy Interior Minister Mikhail Sukhodolsky said police are taking all measures to ensure public order in Kondopoga. As a result of the mass fight involving up to 20 people overnight to August 30, two people were killed and several others were injured in this Karelian town. Six people were arrested on suspicion of murder, and another three are wanted by police. Meanwhile, a group of lawmakers from the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament will visit Kondopoga later this week, house speaker Boris Gryzlov told reporters on Thursday. The group will include six parliamentarians, one from each house faction. It will be led by one of the deputy speakers - Vladimir Pekhtin or Sergei Baburin.
