Seventeen criminal cases have been opened in connection with the recent events in the Karelian town of Kondapoga, but the evaluation of what has happened will only be given after completion of the investigation, Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev told reporters on Thursday, after a session of the joint board of the Russian and Belarussian Interior Ministries. Nurgaliyev said 14 criminal cases had been opened over arsons and one over hooliganism, mass disturbances and murder. "Six people have already been detained in the murder case; they are in custody now," the Russian minister said.
