Militant leader who supervised terrorist operations in several districts of Chechnya was killed Sunday in a special police operation
A militant leader who supervised terrorist operations in several districts of Chechnya was killed Sunday in a special police operation, Chechnya's prime minister said Monday. Isa Muskiyev, the so-called "emir" of the Kurchaloyevsky and Shalinsky districts, and the town of Argun, had long been on the federal most wanted list. "Bandit leader Isa Muskiyev, who was a close associate of the so-called president of Ichkeria [the name militants use for Chechnya] Abdul Khalim Saidulayev, was killed yesterday in a special operation near the village of Tsotsan-Yurt," Ramzan Kadyrov said. Kadyrov said Muskiyev's brother, Ali, who had also been Saiudayev's aide and on the federal wanted list, was also killed in the operation. Saidulayev, who was proclaimed successor of Chechen militant leader Aslan Maskhadov, was eliminated in a special law enforcement operation in June 2006, while Ali Muskiyev managed to escape at the time, killing a federal security officer.
