As many as 26 North Korean fishermen were detained in the area of the Far Eastern state marine preserve in Pyotr Veliky Bay on Monday. The press service of the border guard department for the Primorsky (Maritime) territory of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) told Itar-Tass three motorboats with North Korean fishermen were spotted in the coastal bays in the south of the territory. Border guards found nets and several dozen kilogrammes of squid in the boats. The detained fishermen have explained that they found themselves in Russian territorial waters in an attempt to find shelter from the approaching Typhoon Shanshan. The Koreans will be returned to their country after an investigation, the Maritime border guard department officials said.
