Moscow mayor has declared a war on barges filling the water area of Moskva River
Moscow mayor has declared a war on barges filling the water area of the city’s main waterway, the Moskva River. “Authorities in the capital have opened a real war against those vessels,” Mayor Yuri Luzhkov told a session of the city government Tuesday as he mentioned the measures the local authorities are considering so as to remove the barges, many of which have restaurants and shops, away from the river embankments. Even though Federal Law No. 122 says the city’s government does not control the watercourse of the Moskva River, officials will find a way “to liquidate those structures that mar Moscow’s [architectural] face,” Luzhkov said. “I’ve begun to analyze the situation, in which the Moscow department for water communications and water supplies, as well as Mosenergo [the regional electric power utility, which is an outlet of RAO UES power monopoly – Itar-Tass] signed the documents allowing to plug those barges into our power grids and service lines,” he said, “We’ll solve the task of removing those horrible things from the Moskva River,” Luzhkov said.
