Unknown arsonists tried to set on fire a synagogue in Astrakhan, a city in southern Russia. Prosecutor Sergei Knizhnkiov told ITAR-TASS that a parishioner who was on watch in the synagogue in the night to Friday heard the sound of smashed glass. Going out of the synagogue, he saw that its door was on fire. The man put it out on his own. An incendiary bottle must have been thrown at the door, the prosecutor said, Culprits could not be detained on a hot track. A criminal case on deliberate destruction of property has been opened. The incident was the second in a day. Hooligans smashed window glasses of a synagogue in Khabarovsk. The search for them is going on.
