Prominent journalist Ilya Azovsky has been attacked in Arkhangelsk
Prominent journalist Ilya Azovsky from Arkhangelsk, who is also a deputy of a local Assembly, has been attacked in Arkhangelsk, the press service of the regional Interior Department told Tass on Thursday. The victim was hospitalized. He is in his senses and has been giving testimony, the source said. Ilya Azovsky applied to police on Wednesday afternoon, saying he was attacked in the stairway near an elevator when someone struck him on the head with a heavy object. A team of investigators has been working on the site of the incident in Voskresenskaya Street. A bottle presumably used in the incident has been found. Police also found fingerprints and other important evidence. Chief of the Information and public relations department of the regional Interior Ministry Andrei Kitayev said that a criminal case into the incident was opened on charges of hooliganism. After the circumstances of the incident are clarified the criminal case might be given a different qualification, Kitayev said. Best local detectives and police of the Arkhangelsk region are investigating. The regional Interior Department has brought the investigation under special control. The 37- year old Ilya Azovsky was elected deputy to the regional Assembly as the head of a regional bloc of the Liberal Democratic Party. Earlier, Azovsky worked for regional television and was editor- in- chief of a local newspaper and the Arkhangelsk branch of Moskovsky Komsomolets daily.
