The year 2006 will set the record by the number of flats built for army officers
The year 2006 will set the record by the number of flats built for army officers, Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov told journalists on Wednesday in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region, after a ceremony of handing over 224 flats by the government of the Moscow Region to the Defence Ministry. According to Ivanov, some 40,000 flats for army officers will be built this year. “This is a rather impressive result. We should maintain the pace of housing construction in 2007-2008 too,” Ivanov added. According to his information, 12,400 flats for army officers are to be built in Moscow and the Moscow Region within the coming two years. This will make it possible to reduce a queue for housing in the Moscow Region by 56 per cent by the end of 2007. At present 14,400 servicemen need dwellings for permanent residence in Moscow, and 8,800 – in the Moscow Region. A total of 8,000 flats will be built for servicemen in Moscow in 2006-2007, and 4,400 – in the Moscow Region. “The problem of providing servicemen with dwellings will be resolved in a radical way,” Boris Gromov, Governor of the Moscow Region, told journalists. “Both the Moscow government and municipal administrations are taking part in its solution.”
