The United States secretary of state will visit to Russia October 21
The United States secretary of state will arrive in Russia October 21, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday. The date was agreed to in a telephone conversation Tuesday between Condoleezza Rice and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the ministry said. During Rice's visit, the sides will "continue dialogue on the international and bilateral agenda," the statement said. Rice is currently on a series of official visits to foreign countries to see how they implement sanctions against North Korea. On Wednesday, Rice paid a visit to Japan, from where she will set off to South Korea, and later to China. The UN Security Council passed a resolution on North Korea Saturday, condemning the reclusive Communist regime's October 9 nuclear test and imposing arms and financial sanctions. Pyongyang said the resolution was tantamount to a declaration of war. The sanctions will be lifted as soon as Pyongyang agrees to give up its nuclear program and return to the six-nation talks with South Korea, Russia, Japan, China and the United States.
