Russia and Germany have sealed a declaration on cooperation in transport
Russia and Germany have sealed a declaration on cooperation in transport, combined transport operations and railway ferry communication between Russian and German ports. Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin and his German counterpart Wolfgang Tiefensee put their signatures to the document. They hailed that ferry communication between Russian ports of Ust-Luga and Baltiysk and the German ports in the Baltic Sea had been launched and the companies participating in the project would step up cooperation. Levitin pointed out that a direct ferry route is very important for bilateral cooperation. The production cost of goods Russia exports will decrease making them more competitive. The declaration helped settle some industrial issues that had been discussed within the framework of the high-level interstate consultations in Tomsk. Tiefensee said, for his part, the signing of the declaration proves that the Russian and German transport ministers had built up good cooperation. It is important that the two countries’ enterprises are joining the project’s implementation, he said. “We are also intensively working on some other projects,” Tiefensee said pointing out that “Russia’s market is as vast as opportunities it has.”
