Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the American people after the death of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.
"We send our condolences to the American people in connection with the death of former President Reagan," Mr. Putin said. Mr. Reagan "was an outstanding politician in the last century," he stressed. Mr. Putin said Mikhail Gorbachev, the former president of the Soviet Union, would represent Russia at Mr. Reagan's funeral. According to the memoirs of those who attended the summits with Mr. Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, and Mr. Gorbachev, the American leader really loved Russian saying, "trust, but check you must," and said it frequently during his meeting with Mr. Gorbachev. Mr. Gorbachev is expected to attend Mr. Reagan's funeral at the National Cemetery in Washington on Friday
