Mikhail Saakashvili has ruled out possible sanctions in the Russian accession to the World Trade Organization
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has ruled out possible sanctions in the Russian accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). “We are sane enough to avoid sanctions against Russia. We won’t take such steps,” the president told a Friday press conference following his speech at the World Security Forum in Monaco. “One should not dramatize the situation surrounding Georgian possible sanctions on the Russian entry into the WTO,” he said. At the same time, “Russian banks and companies are illegally operating on certain Georgian territories,” Saakashvili said. “We believe that Georgia is a law-governed state, and one should abide by the rules.” Such companies and banks will face sanctions, he said, without going into details. Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili said on Thursday that Georgia would use the veto right in the Russian accession to the WTO.
