The anti-terrorist campaign in Chechnya has claimed the lives of 624 local policemen
The anti-terrorist campaign in Chechnya has claimed the lives of 624 local policemen, said speakers at a Grozny meeting between Chechen President Alu Alkhanov and mothers and widows of the deceased officers. It is impossible to compensate the loss of life, Alkhanov said, adding that social security of families of the deceased or missing officers and the wounded policemen “remains a priority of the Chechen administration.” This year alone a special commission of the Chechen Interior Ministry paid 19.64 million rubles to families of the policemen who died in the line of duty. A total of 1,360 such families, including 913 underage children, are receiving material aid, Alkhanov said. Some 941 Chechen policemen were injured in the anti-terrorist campaign, acting Interior Minister Sultan Satuyev said. Three Chechen policemen were named Heroes of Russia, and 116 received the Order of Valor. Each widow received 30,000 rubles from the Chechen president at the meeting.
