Two traffic policemen in the Vladimir region have been sentenced to 5. 5 years in a maximum-security prison for beating up a cyclist who died of wounds. The policemen, Oleg Fedotov and Valery Tsil, pursued a cyclist, Vladimir Igantov, who defied their order to brake. The incident occurred on the Moskva -Ufa federal motorway. The policemen pursued the motorcycle in a police car and finally, overtook the man; the cyclist braked, crashed into the police car and damaged it. The policemen took the man off his seat, handcuffed the man and cruelly beat him up. On the following day the victim died of wounds. Both policemen were convicted on charges of abuse of powers that entailed grave consequences (caused human death through carelessness, the verdict said). Both policemen were stripped of the right to work at law enforcement bodies for three years.
