Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexis II believes that the unity of the Russian orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia will be restored soon
"I think we will see the time when the tragic split of the Russian Church, provoked by the revolution and civil war in Russia, will be overcome," the patriarch told journalists at a meeting in the Russian Academy of Sciences on Tuesday. He said, "Unity in prayer was restored" during the recent Moscow visit by Metropolitan Laurus, the First Hierarch of ROCOR, and the accompanying ROCOR clergy. Two commissions set up by the Moscow Patriarchy and ROCOR are tackling the key issues of reunification. They will submit their reports to the two Councils of Bishops in Russia and the USA. The Council of ROC Bishops will be held in September, and the ROCOR bishops will meet in late 2004 or early 2005.
