Traffic police officer in St. Petersburg shot and killed a prisoner as he was attempting to escape
A traffic police officer in St. Petersburg shot and killed a prisoner as he was attempting to escape. The incident occurred last weekend at the building of the Krasnoselsky federal court in Suvorov Street, where the detainee had been brought handcuffed for a decision on restriction measure. "The unemployed young man, aged 25, arrested for robbery, pushed away two escort police and tried to escape. Pursuing him, a traffic police officer from the Krasnoselsky precinct, driving a car, fired five warning shots in the air while unit commander fired two shots in the air, to no avail, so a decision was made to shoot at the escapee," city police told Itar-Tass on Monday. The unit commander fired his service pistol once; the runaway received a blunt wound to the waist and died in the ambulance. Prosecutors of St. Petersburg's Krasnoselsky district are checking the legitimacy of the use of firearm by police.
