The pro-presidential United Russia party is developing a strategy for the next five years
The pro-presidential United Russia party is developing a strategy for the next five years and will present it before the upcoming elections of 2007. The future election programme of the party in 2007-2011 will be based on United Russia leader Boris Gryzlov’s speech at the party’s congress, to be held in Yekaterinburg on December 2. First Duma deputy speaker Oleg Morozov said on Monday that the party’s programme would be titled “The Russia We Choose”. “This is an image of Russia we would like to see, build and leave to the generation of Russians that have been born in the 21st century,” Morozov said. “This is the first executive document of the party that not only addresses the current times but also builds a strategy for a decade,” he added. Morozov said local party organisations were discussing the draft programme. “The executive document does not of course cover all objectives identified by the party. It addresses the most important issues – the party’s strategy and its position of principle,” he said. “This is a brief and laconic document. The position of the party on all key issues will be presented during the year, before the next congress,” Morozov said, adding, ”All members of the party, all citizens of Russia will get clear answers to all questions. For example, how the party is going to reorganise the system of education or develop the agro-industrial sector.” At the congress, the party will also state its position on the development of the Urals and Siberia, a region that may become a centre of Russian industry, Morozov said.
