Police have seized 40 kilos of heroin in the Moscow Region's town of Lyubertsy
Police have seized 40 kilos of heroin in the Moscow Region's town of Lyubertsy, an official of the Federal Drug Control Service told Tass on Thursday. “While inspecting a Mercedes-Benz cold storage truck agents of the Federal Drug Control Service found 40 kilos of heroin. The drugs packed in 40 plastic bags were hidden in boxes for electric heaters.” Experts believe the seized heroin was of Afghanistan origin. “It looks like it was produced at an underground laboratory in Afghanistan,” the official said. Both the driver and the recipient - the leader of one of the criminal rings, were detained. One of the detainees is Kazakhstan-born and the other, of Uzbek descent. A criminal case was opened against them. In the course of a year-long operation police established that criminals had organised large-scale heroin trafficking from Central Asian countries. Every batch of drugs reached 100 kilos. Taking part in the operation were agents of the Federal Drug Control Service from Russia's constituent republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, as well as from the Kurgan, Chelyabinsk, Vladimir, Nizhni Novgorod and Moscow regions. The drug police acted in close cooperation with Uzbek counterparts. This is the second large batch of heroine to have been seized in the Moscow Region in November. In late October drug police seized 158 kilos of heroin. All in all Russian drug police have confiscated more than 80 tonness drugs, including 1,900 kilos of heroin since January 1.
