Russia and the Organization of the Islamic Conference should prevent the world's religious and civilization division
Russia and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) should prevent the world's religious and civilization division, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. "The world faces many serious problems and the future of international relations depends on them. Russia and OIC can do a lot to prevent the civilization and religious split," Mr. Lavrov told a press conference following his participation in the 31st session of OIC foreign ministers in Istanbul. "We are ready to form a really collective order on the basis of mutual understanding and joint fight against new threats and challenges without proving the superiority of this or that religion and world outlook," Mr. Lavrov stressed. "Russia-OIC dialogue is important in order not to equate counter-terrorism with the conflict with Islam. Terrorism is alien to Islam. OIC condemns all forms of terrorism and confirms readiness of the Muslim world to fight against this evil," the Russian Foreign Minister said. He pointed out to Russian-OIC common positions on the Mideastern settlement. "It is necessary to provide legal rights of Palestinians, promote the restoration of Iraq's sovereignty and Afghanistan's statehood," Sergei Lavrov added.
