Russia’s CP and SPS said they were ready to discuss a joint document on the fight against extremism
Russia’s Communist Party and the Union of Right Forces (SPS) said they were ready to discuss a joint document on the fight against extremism. SPS leader Nikita Belykh said he knew of similar joint documents signed before. “If there is a consensus in society on the fight against extremism, and there is such a consensus, a document can be signed,” he said. “But it must not become a hollow document: what matters is not a piece of paper on which something is written but how parties deal with a problem that is addressed in the document,” Belykh said. Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said, “Any document should be discussed. But when some document is offered for signature, it is not serious. We do not participate in this.” He said the party had published a document on the fight against state extremism in May 1991 but it was ignored.
